Robert Reed (1857–1927)

by A.W.P.

One of the most lovable and highly respected members of the Sydney business community was Mr. Robert C. Reed, who died last week after a long illness.

For very many years Mr. Reed had been a partner in Messrs. Gibbs, Bright and Co., a firm well known throughout the world, and which is very largely interested in pastoral matters through its association with those big tracts of country in Queensland, held under the style of the Australian Pastoral Company.

Mr. Reed retired from the firm at the end of last year. He was born in Liverpool, England, in 1857, the same year as the writer, and came to Sydney when twenty years of age, joining the firm of Gibbs, Bright and Co. on his arrival. He was made a partner in 1903, and was also a director of Lysaght Bros. and Co. Limited and other companies. His only son, Mr. Charles Reed, is with Gibbs, Bright and Co., and bids fair to follow his father's footsteps.

In Mr. Robert Reed we have lost a good honourable man, and personally I have lost a very dear friend.
