Thomas Province (?–1920)

Thomas Province, n.d.

Thomas Province, n.d.

from Pastoral Review, 16 August 1921

Mr. Thomas Province, sen., of Wonbah Station, Bundaberg, Q., the subject of the accompanying photo, died last December. A native of Ayrshire, he came to Australia in 1858, and soon after landing accepted an engagement at Dalgangal Station, Gayndah. Accompanied by Mrs. Province he made the journey by bullock dray from Maryborough, and stayed on the property for many years. Later he purchased Yarrol, in the Mount Perry district, and then Roslyn, which is adjacent to Wonbah, the latter being his last purchase and continuous home up to the time of his death. Mr. Province took a keen interest in the management of the various properties held by him, and did much to improve the standard of the stock raised on them. He was also of a generous and kindly disposition, and leaves a son, Mr. Thomas Province, jun., of Roslyn, and two daughters, Mrs. Traill, of Cynthia, and Mrs. R. G. Curtis, Bundaberg, to mourn his loss.
