Mr. Richard Proctor, formerly a well-known and esteemed resident of the Maitland district, died recently, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs L. E. Wiseman, Manor-street, Middle Brighton, Victoria, aged 70 years. He was a son of the late Mr. Peter Proctor, who for many years conducted a grocery business in premises in High-street, West Maitland, nearly opposite the Bank of New South Wales. He succeeded his father in business, but, after some years, retired and want on the land. He was a deacon of the West Maitland Congregational Church, with which he was associated for over 50 years, and also took a keen interest in Christian socialism, of which he was an advocate. His brother, the late Mr. Peter Proctor was Financial Editor of the "Sydney Morning Herald" for many years. Mr. J. M. Proctor, of Rutherford, West Maitland, is a son.
