Florence Jane Pike (1880–1952)

Mrs. Florence Jane Pike, widow of Mr. Peter Pike, a former Speaker in the House of Assembly, died suddenly in Launceston yesterday morning.

Mrs. Pike, who had been associated with a great many charitable movements in the city, was busily dressing dolls for the South Launceston General Hospital Auxiliary on the afternoon before her death.

At one time Mrs. Pike was secretary of the Wattle Day appeals. She was active in hospital auxiliary work for many years, and worked also for the Glen Dhu School. She was an executive member of the A.L.P. women's branch.

Mrs. Pike was also interested in sport. She was a keen bowler, and was a past president of the South Launceston Women's Bowling Club. She was secretary of the women's committee of the City Football Club, and was president of the All Whites Vigoro Club.

Mrs. Pike is survived by her son, Mr. P. T. Pike, of Launceston; two sisters, Mrs. T. Moriarty, and Mrs. E. McLoughlin; a brother, Mr. T. Porter (Melbourne); and a step-brother, Mr. C. Cassidy (Launceston).
