J. W. Perry (1864–1922)

The sudden death of Mr. J. W. Perry (late of Messrs. Weaver and Perry, Sydney) at Horsley, Smithfield, N.S.W., caused a great stir both in city and country. The late Mr. Perry had been in hospital for some weeks on account of heart trouble, and seemingly he was better for the rest, when he suddenly collapsed at his home on 13th June. He was born at Abbotsbury (adjoining Horsley) in the year 1864, and was educated at the King's School. Upon leaving there he was engaged in pastoral pursuits on the Macquarie, and later was with Messrs. J. C. Young and Co.

In 1895 he joined in partnership with Mr. F. G. Weaver, constituting the firm of Weaver and Perry, In 1898 he was married in the Picton Church to Julia, the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Antill. He settled with his wife in his present home, which is known as Horsley. The estate has been in the family for 120 years, it being a grant to his great grandfather, the late Colonel Johnston, of Annandale. The late Mr. Perry is survived by his widow and three sons, Ian, Donald, and Campbell.
