Keith Paterson (1890–1955)

Keith Paterson, n.d.

Keith Paterson, n.d.

from Pastoral Review and Graziers' Record, 19 January 1956

The death on 10th December 1955 of Mr. Keith Paterson has removed a member of one of the pioneer families of Western Australia. He was the son of Mr. George Paterson, who was amongst the earliest settlers to establish the pastoral industry in the Kimberleys.

Mr. Keith Paterson was born in 1890 at Creaton, Pinjarra, where his father had been born in 1849. After leaving school the late Mr. Keith Paterson's activities were associated with grazing and dairying on Creaton, but in 1906 he went north to join his brother, the late Mr. A. G. (Fred) Paterson, who was managing the station interests of the family at Yarraloola, near Onslow. A few years later the family acquired full control of this property, which it still retains.

Following the acquisition of Yarraloola Station, Mr. Fred Paterson bought an interest, with an uncle Mr. S. R. Elliott, in Yandil Station, near Wiluna, and took over the management, leaving Mr. Keith Paterson as manager at Yarraloola. He retained control of Yarraloola until a few years ago, when, after a lifetime of activity and interest in pastoral pursuits, he retired to live in Perth and passed over the management of the station to one of his sons, Mr. Murray Paterson.

The late Mr. Keith Paterson was a member of the executive of the Pastoralists' Association, a member of the Pasture Protection Board, and a committeeman of the W.A. Club. He, is survived by his widow, a daughter (Mrs. Hosking), and three sons, Peter, Ashley (Yanrey Station), and Murray.
