Patrick Gerald O'Day (1857–1934)

The death occurred recently of Mr. Patrick Gerald O'Day, who was well known in the Gordon and Bungaree districts, and, in the later years of his life, in Brighton and Kew. Mr. O'Day, who was aged 75 years, conducted a grain and produce business at Bungaree for many years, and was managing director of P. O'Day Pty. Ltd., jute merchants. He took an active interest in politics, and was president of the Bungaree Shire for many years. On three occasions he unsuccessfully contested the Warrenheip seat in the Legislative Assembly. Mr. O'Day was a well-known racehorse owner and was a member of the V.R.C., V.A.T.C., W.R.C. and the Victorian Club. His colours were carried to victory on many occasions on metropolitan and Ballarat district courses. He is survived by a widow and one daughter and four sons. The daughter is Mrs. O'Keeffe, wife of Mr. J. R. A. O'Keeffe, solicitor. The funeral took place privately at Ballarat.
