Many friends, for he had many, mourn the death of Mr. Daniel J. O'Connell, which occurred suddenly at his residence, 22 Beaver-street, Essendon. He was a man of character and kindliness, a public servant of marked ability—he was associated with the P.M.G.'s department for over fifty years —deeply religious and kindly. Mr. O'Connell was prominent in Public Service Union circles, having been general secretary of the Third Division Telegraphists and Postal Clerks' Union for many years. He was also editor of the "Australasian Telegraphist." He served for a period as president of the High Council of the Commonwealth Public Service Unions, and was an honorary life member of the Federal Public Service Assistants' Association. Mr. O'Connell was in his 66th year.
