Mr. James Alexander Nivison, a member of one of the oldest grazing families in New South Wales, died suddenly at his home in Sydney last month at the age of 48.
Until some seven years ago, when he disposed of his interest in one of the family properties, Ohio, Walcha, to reside in Sydney, the late Mr. Nivison was a keen breeder of Merinos, Herefords, and fat lambs. He did not enjoy the best of health in recent years, but nevertheless continued to be an active worker for the Graziers' Association of N.S.W., of which he had been a member of the general council since 1934. He was a member of the executive committee from 1951 to 1956, and was chairman at one stage. Mr. Nivison became treasurer of the association in 1951 and held office until his death.
The late Mr. Nivison, who was educated at The King's School, Parramatta, and spent the first year of his working life with Goldsbrough, Mort and Co. Ltd., was a director of Country Broadcasting Services Ltd., a member of the council of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce, and of the Employers' Association. When he moved to Sydney from Walcha he engaged in the real estate business and had built up his own organisation. He is survived by his widow, 12-year-old daughter, and a brother, Mr. S. Nivison.
