Florence Nightingale (1855–1936)

Miss Florence Nightingale, who died at a private hospital in Sydney on Wednesday night, was a third cousin of the famous nurse of the Crimean War who bore the same name. She was a native of Jamaica, and was educated in England. Coming to Sydney in 1888, she opened, in Martin-place, one of the first copying offices established here. Typewriting was the accomplishment of few in those days. She retired from business about 20 years ago. The day of her burial coincided with her 81st birthday.
