The death on the 6th ult. of Mr. George Nield, senior, of Oldham Park, near Balranald, N.S.W., at the age of 66 years, came as a shock to his many friends.
He was born at Oldham, England, and as a young man came out to Victoria. After many years of successful farming in the Echuca district, he, in 1893, selected land on Yanga Station, in N.S.W. A few years later he purchased an adjoining selection, and still later bought a freehold property on the Wakool River, and so established a nice and valuable property, on which he combined sheep raising with agriculture.
Two of his sons saw active service, one paying the supreme sacrifice.
