We deeply regret to announce the death of Mrs. C. A. [Sophia Jane] Murphy, which took place at North Adelaide, on the 26th inst. The deceased lady, although latterly she had lived in comparative privacy, and had to a great extent withdrawn herself from public life, was well known in educational circles as one of the most able and most successful teachers that the colony has produced. For years she was the conductress of the Ladies' College in Kent Town, which she established at a very early age and at that institution she had the pleasure of training and bringing up of the daughters of many of our most prominent colonists. The deceased lady possessed considerable literary ability, and was the authoress of several useful educational works. Mrs. Murphy was particularly skilful in all kinds of fancy work and painting, and otherwise was highly accomplished. She departed this life at the early age of thirty-eight years, after a brief illness ensuing on her accouchement, leaving behind her a husband and three infant children to mourn their terrible loss. The deceased lady will long be borne in remembrance by those who owe their training to her patience and skill, and by a large circle of friends, who feel that they have sustained a loss which cannot be repaired.
