With the death in Brisbane on the 27th of last month of Mr. Archibald Alexander Moffat, the Longreach (Q.) shire lost one of its most prominent graziers and business personalities, who during the 73 years of his life devoted much of his time to the welfare of the community.
Mr. Moffat was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Moffat, of Camoola Park, Longreach, and gained his early pastoral experience on that property before acquiring Leander, Longreach, on his own account. He also had grazing interests in the Winton district, and owned Tulga, Longreach, but made his home at Leander and continued to reside there until about 18 months ago, when he sold the property prior to retiring to Sandgate.
For more than 20 years the late Mr. Moffat was a member of the Longreach Shire Council, and in this position proved himself a man of outstanding business acumen whose great foresight was invaluable to many public associations. He was also one of the founders of the Longreach Printing Co. Ltd. and served on the directorate of that company from its inception in 1922 until he resigned on his retirement from the district about 12 months ago.
Mr. Moffat is survived by his widow, one son, and three daughters, as well as by his brother (Mr. Norman Moffat of Camoola Park) and sister (Mrs. Paterson, of Home Creek Barcaldine, Q.). Another brother was killed in the first world war.
