Daniel Patrick (Dan) McLaughlin (1876–1937)

No more unexpected loss has been experienced by the Victorian Labor Movement than that caused by the death last week of Mr. Daniel Patrick McLaughlin, secretary of the Rope and Cordage and the Male Confectioners' Unions.

It seemed only the other day that Mr. McLaughlin visited the office of "The Labor Call." Many Labor men have expressed sorrow at their late colleague's demise.

The late Mr. McLaughlin had been secretary of the unions mentioned for many years, and had taken a particularly keen interest in the Anti-Sweating League at the time of his death.

He had been a member of the Labor Movement for more than 30 years, and at one time was an organiser for the Australian Workers' Union, having been a member of the Federal and State executives of the A.W.U.

The late Mr. McLaughlin also took great interest in slum abolition, being a member of the committee. He was also a former secretary of the Trades Union Salaried Officers' Association.

Deceased, who leaves a widow and two children, was buried privately last Saturday.
