Ruby Margaret McGrorty (1892–1967)

"The passing of Ruby McGrorty brings great sorrow, but when we think of the life she led, think of her ideas, think of her contribution to the cause she held so dear, then we are able to approach her passing in a manner that she would prefer."

Mr. A. Macdonald, a member of the National Committee of the Communist Party of Australia, said this in the oration at the funeral last week of Mrs. McGrorty, who died in Warwick.

She was in earlier years a worker in the railways and a stalwart of the Australian Railways Union, and joined the CPA in the late 1920's or early 1930's. Later she was a member of the original Women's Auxiliary of the Queensland Trades & Labor Council.

She was for many years publisher of the Queensland Guardian.

"Ruby McGrorty's fundamental approach always was to help people," Mr. Macdonald said.

Deep sympathy is extended to members of her family.
