John Joseph McDonald (1842–1919)

Mr. J. J. [John Joseph] McDonald, who died at his residence, "Weerona," Yando, Boort, on August the 16th, was born in Adelaide, and at an early age came to Victoria, where his father was following up the gold rushes. The deceased settled down in the Boort district about 40 years ago, carrying out farming enterprise at Yando. He enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew him. He was the father of eleven, of whom ten, together with his widow, survive. One son recently returned from the front, and another (the eldest) is a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council, having the distinction of being the first Labour member to secure election to that Chamber. Interment took place at the Boort Cemetery on 17th ult., and the funeral was largely attended, friends coming from near and far to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased pioneer. Rev. Fr. Gleeson read the burial service. R.I. P.
