MAN SHOT WHILE ASLEEP

Son of Mayor of Geelong

CANBERRA Friday -The Ministet in Charge of Territories (Senator Pearce) has received from the Administrator of the Mandated Territory of New Guinea (Brigadier-General McNicoll) a wireless message reporting the murder on February 27 of Edward Colin McDonald son of the mayor of Geelong at Ambunti in the Sepik district by a native police constable who afterward attempted suicide. Mr McDonald who was aged 29 years was one of the first of the cadets appointed to the New Guinea Administration in 1925. He was promoted to the office of patrol officer in 1928 and to that of an assistant district officer from September 19 1933. It is understood that he was shot while he was asleep.
