One of the State’s stormy petrels, Mr Tim McCristal, died at his home at Fairfield last week. He was a one-time resident of the Manning, following farming pursuits at Stoney Creek. Tim had a pretty good military record in the first world war, but his habit of giving anyone a piece of his mind had him in trouble both in and out of the army. He had many unsuccessful attempts to get into Parliament, but he was so frank in his utterances that he was never able to make the grade. Tim actually founded a political organisation, with a name characteristic of the man – The Australian Republican Party.  But it never caught on with the voting public, and so had funeral rites read over it as a still-born ideal.
