Many Queenslanders will regret to learn of the death of Mr. Robert Thomas Matheson, which took place on March 12. Mr. Matheson was buried in Toowong Cemetery, Canon Garland officiating. Deceased was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1868, and was the eldest son of the late Gilbert Creer Matheson, of Dunedin. A man of fine presence and personality, Mr. Matheson in his early manhood was connected with the Queensland National Bank, Brisbane. After some years he resigned, and joined the Union Bank, Brisbane, and a little later was transferred to Perth, Western Australia. A very capable business man, Mr. Matheson was only a short time in Perth, when he was offered, and accepted, an important commercial position in China. Realising the fine possibilities in that country, which was then rising into commercial prominence, Mr. Matheson took up business as a broker in Hong Kong, and was very successful until his health failed, some time ago, and he was obliged to seek the better climate of Brisbane. The late Mr. Matheson was married in 1898 to Lilian, the second daughter of the late Robert J. Gray, of Huntington, Albion, who for some years held several responsible positions in the Government Service, including that of Commissioner for Railways. The issue of the marriage was one daughter. Mrs. Matheson and her daughter are living in Hongkong, China.
