A well known and highly respected grazier in the Goondiwindi district, Queensland, Mr. Hugh Mackenzie, of Callandoon, died in the Goondiwindi Hospital on the 6th January.
He was born in New South Wales of a pastoral family and when 23 years of age went to Scotland to manage the family estate at Dundonnell. He returned to Australia in 1907 and in partnership with his brother, Mr. Murdo Mackenzie, purchased Tooloombah in the Rockhampton district, Q.
After 21 years at Tooloombah the partnership secured Callandoon, and in 1938 the late Mr. Hugh Mackenzie purchased his brother's interest in the property.
In 1903 Mr. Mackenzie married Miss Florence Harrington, of Maryborough, Q., who predeceased him in 1920. He is survived by two daughters—Dr. Edna Berkenshaw, now in England, and Mrs. J. Thorn (Callandoon)—and one son, Hugh (Tony) who has managed Callandoon since his discharge from the R.A.A.F.
