The death of Mr. John Macinnes on the 16th March in Melbourne removed one who has long been associated with pastoral interests in Victoria and South Australia. Mr. Macinnes was born in the parish of Strath, Isle of Skye, Scotland, in July 1825, and was in his ninety-second year when he died. He arrived in Victoria in the year 1853, and soon after went to the Narracoorte district, South Australia. About the end of the fifties he acquired Crower and Baker's Range Stations (in the latter of which the town of Lucindale has since been built ) in conjunction with his brothers, the late William and Malcolm Macinnes. In 1873 Mr. Macinnes sold his interest in these properties to his brothers, and bought Mount Graham Station, near Millicent, S.A., from the late Mr. Archibald Johnston. On selling this station to Mr. Thomas Guthrie some two years later, he bought Mt. Elgin, near Nhill, Victoria, from the late Dr. Telford. Mr. Macinnes did not hold this property long, and on disposing of it he bought the Hilgay Estate, near Coleraine, which he held at the time of his death.
For many years he lived quietly at his residence in Melbourne, and was always pleased to meet old friends, and talk of earlier days. He had a splendid memory, which he preserved to the last. He is survived by his widow, who was a daughter of the late Mr. Ewen Cameron, of Wattle Range Station, near Millicent, S.A. Mrs. A. Watson, of Konetta, Robe, S.A., is a sister of the late Mr. Macinnes.
