Peter Lynch (1848–1915)

The death occurred on Friday, 6th inst., of a well known and highly respected resident of Jamestown, in the person of Mr. Peter Lynch, at the age of 67 years. Deceased was in his usual health up to Friday evening when he was taken suddenly ill and passed away almost immediately. Mr. Lynch was born at County Gavan, Ireland, and arrived in this State by the ship James Ferney (Captain Daly) in 1855. His parents first lived at Dry Creek where he received his education. Some years later the family removed to Red Banks (near Wasleys) where they engaged in farming pursuits. Mr. Lynch was married to Miss Eileen Connolly on March 5, 1878, at SS. Peter and Paul's, Gawler, by the Rev. Abbot Alcock. In May, 1890, with his family he came to the north settling at Yatina and after a residence of 12 years came to Petersburg, and five years ago came to Jamestown, where he has resided since. He leaves a widow and two sons (Messrs. Pat. of Port Pirie, and Peter of Jamestown), and three daughters, Mesdames Matt Clark, Mcannanarie; Thos. Ridge, Petersburg; and M. O'Leary, Ucolra; and 15 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. D. Fisher, of Adelaide. The funeral took place on Sunday, 8th inst., when a large number of relatives and friends (including the Concert Band) followed the remains to their last resting place in the Jamestown Cemetery. The Very Rev. Fr. Doyle conducted the funeral services. R.I.P.
