Madame Marie Therese Loureiro, who died recently in Melbourne, after a protracted illness, was a younger sister of "Tama," the Australian novelist. Madame Loureiro ably filled the position of art critic of the Melbourne Age for 10 years, and contributed sketches to its columns; which showed her a past-mistress of domestic science. On her mother's side she belonged to a family of artists and writers, while her father, the late Alfred Huybers, Hobart merchant, was a Belgian, and the Belgian women have a passion for house-wifery. "Tasma's" best remembered novel is a tale of an Australian nouveau riche, Uncle Piper, of Piper's Hill. She was also a brilliant journalist, and after the death of her husband, M. Couvreur, continued his work in Brussels as correspondent of the London Times. Both the sisters wrote and spoke French, as well as English. Madamo Loureiro's husband, Arthur Loureiro, a Portuguese artist, survives her.
