Mr. Robin Rupert (Bob) Loughnan, of Homebush, Mitchell, Q., and a well-known figure in Queensland grazing circles, died suddenly last month. Mr. Loughnan was born at Homebush, Angledool, N.S.W., in 1902 and went to Abbieglassie, near Mitchell, in 1907, and to Rutland, in the same district, in 1910.
The late Mr. Loughnan was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Loughnan, of Rutland, and he was a member of the firm of H. C. Loughnan and Sons until the partnership was dissolved a few years ago. He then formed the Mount Owen Pastoral Company which controlled Homebush, Mount Owen, and Tullundunna, in the Mitchell district, and, until recently, Lorne Downs, Augathella.
Mr. Bob Loughnan gained his early pastoral experience at Rutland after having been educated at the Southport School, Q. Subsequently he managed Wongongera, near Chinchilla, for the family interests and when that property was sold he took over Lorne. Later he developed Mount Owen into a notable cattle property and also formed Homebush from portion of Rutland.
Always a great lover of horses, Mr. Loughnan successfully raced many good thoroughbreds. He was a member of the committee of the Maranoa Amateur Race Club, the Mitchell Show Society, and a member of the Downs and South Western District Racing Association.
Mr. Loughnan married Miss D. C. Taylor, of Brisbane, in 1932. He is survived by his widow and two daughters.
