We regret to chronicle the death of Mr Joseph Lochart senr., of Wedderburn, which event occurred at Wood Wood on the 21st inst. About a fortnight before his death Mr Lochart and his wife paid a visit to their son (Mr Sam. Lockhart) at St Lake, and afterwards motored across to Wood Wood. It appears that the old gentleman contracted a cold and pleurisy intervened. He was attended by one of the Swan Hill doctors, but owing his advanced age (87 years), recovery was deemed impossible and he died peacefully, surrounded by several members his family. The deceased, a retired State school teacher, was engaged in farming pursuits while still a teacher, and in ? right up to the time of his demise. He was appointed to take classes at the Wedderburn school about 40 years ago. He was a native of the North of Ireland, and came to the State during the gold rush. In the early days Mr Lodhart was a storekeeper on the goldfields. During the last 15 years the deceased took a special interest in church work. He was an elder of the Presbyterian Church at Wedderburn, and taught class in the Sunday school up to the time of his death. The deceased was highly esteemed he being a man of sterling character possessed a balanced mind and heart. The deceased leaves a widow (73 of age), five sons and two daughters. These are Mr S. Lockhart (Sea Lake), Mr Joseph Lockhart (Tooleybuc), Mr Bryan Lockhart (Wood Wood), Mr John Lockhart (Wakool, N.S.W.), Mr Wit Lockhart (Berrimal), Mrs Js Trotman (Kurrucca), and mRS Jas. Chisholm (Berrimal). The funeral, which took places Wedderburn, was largely attended.
