There was something ominous about last Sunday, for on that day no less than three deaths occurred in our midst, amongst them being that of Capt. Edward Leighton, the assistant light-house keeper at Jarman Island, who breathed his last on the island at a quarter to 12 that morning. The deceased was 61 years of age. Some few months ago he received a terrible shaking by falling into an unprotected wool press sunk into the ground under the Mercantile Co.'s warehouse, and the shock greatly contributed to hastening his end. The remains were interred in the Cossack cemetery on Monday morning, a number of brethren of the Masonic order to which he belonged, together with many of his friends in life, joining in the cortege. The deceased leaves a wife and son to mourn their loss.
