Arthur Mills Leavold (1888–1952)

We regret to record the death on Wednesday of Mr Arthur M. Leavold secretary-treasurer of the Printing Industry Employees Union, and a director of the Industrial Printing and Publicity Co Ltd, Richmond.

Mr Leavold had been in indifferent health for some months.

Recently he indicated to the Union Board of Management his intention to retire from his official position. The Board subsequently appointed Mr Leavoldl long-service leave as from January 1 next year.

Mr Leavold was first president of the Victorian branch of the union, and became its first full-time secretary in 1921. He retired later that year, following the amalgamation of other unions in the PIEUA, and became an organiser.

He was later elected assistant-secretary and then secretary. At death he had completed 31 years continuous service as a full-time official of the union.

Mr Leavold represented the Trades Hall Council on the Apprenticeship Commission, and was a former member of the Essendon Council.

He was aged 64 years.
