Mr. Edward Laughton, who died at Adelaide on 2nd November at the age of 84, was closely associated with pastoral affairs for over half a century. In the fifties he formed the stock and station firm of Dean, Laughton & Co., and subsequently the firm of E. Laughton & Co., which still carries on business in South Australia. The deceased gentleman, in the early days, made important purchases of live stock for South Australian interests in the other States, and personally superintended the droving of them along the Darling and Murray, opening up shorter stock routes between Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia. Mr. Laughton was a man of many attainments, and had broad sympathies and wide horizons. He had a supreme faith in the future of Australia if the country were only given a chance by legislators and the unions. Mr. Laughton lived a full and useful life, and his death is mourned by a large circle of friends. He left two sons (Mr. H. Laughton (of E. Laughton & Co.) and Mr. Arthur Laughton, and three daughters.
