Mr. Robert Henry Langley, a partner in the firm of Langley Brothers, Ltd., died on Saturday afternoon, at his residence, Terara, Pymble, after a long illness.
Mr. Langley, who was 76 years of age, was the oldest son of the late Robert Langley, and was born in Sydney. He was a well-known resident of Balmain and Drummoyne. Associated with his father's business originally in Sussex-street, he did much to open up the North Coast, especially the Tweed River trade, in which his father's vessels began over 48 years ago. The interest in the Tweed River trade was retained by the firm, now known as Langley Bros., Ltd., until about eight years ago, when they sold out their steamers. Mr. Langley never married.
Mr. Langley was a member of the old Mercantile Rowing Club, and, with his brothers, was one of the first members of the Balmain Rowing Club. He was a lover of boat sailing, and took part in many races in the open boats before the half-deckers were introduced.
The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at Field of Mars Cemetery. The Rev. Jas. Marshall conducted the service at the home and the graveside. The principal mourners were Messrs. William and Alfred Langley (brothers), and Harold, Bert, and Robert (nephews). Amongst those who attended were Messrs. J. W. Stevenson, N. M. Thomas, E. Vernon Dixon, T. M. Banks, B. W.
