Harley M. P. Lacy (1898–1956)

Mr. Harley M. P. Lacy, of Wallal Downs, Port Hedland, W.A., whose recent death at the age of 58 was briefly reported in our December issue, was a well known pastoralist and a member of one of the old families in Western Australia. At the time of his death, Mr. Lacy was en route to Perth on a combined business and holiday trip, accompanied by his wife.

The late Harley Lacy gained his early pastoral experience on Boolathanna Station, Carnarvon, under the late Charlie Butcher, and soon after World War I became associated with Wallal Downs as part owner and manager. During the intervening years he instituted many improvements to the station, one of the greatest being the introduction of buffel grass. Mr. Lacy had the first seed broadcast some 25 years ago, and had continued to encourage the spread of this grass ever since.

The late Mr. Lacy is survived by his widow and two daughters.
