The death occurred at the Hospital on Sunday of Mr. George Reid Kerr. He was born at Ballarat 65 years ago and came to Broken Hill about 40 years ago. His last place of employment was the South Mine where he was employed as a check weigher. He leaves a widow and one son, Mr. J. Kerr, of Adelaide, and one daughter, Mrs. I. Mushan. The funeral, which was of a private nature, took place yesterday morning, leaving his late residence, 358 Piper Street, at 11 a.m. The interment was made in the Presbyterian Cemetery in the same grave as his brother Jack, who died in June 1939. Envoy Crocker officiated at the graveside. The bearers were Messrs. A Murphy, W. Morrison. J. Sampson, S. Mushan, G. Nickolich, A. McLennan. The W.I.U. of A. was represented by Mr. E. McGrath. Norman Woodman had charge of the funeral arrangements.
The late Mr. Kerr had been for very many years one of the best known of advance guard unionists. He was an active campaigner in the 44 hour strike and also in the big strike of 1919-20. The late Mr. Kerr was always a financial unionist , and in recent years had been scrutineer on W.I.U. of A. ballots.
