Joseph Kenna (c. 1828–1908)

Our old and respected citizen Joseph Kenna, who had been ailing for some months past, died yesterday at the ripe age of 75 years. He was a native of Brownstown, Kildare, Ireland and came out to Maryborough in the ship Prince Consort in 1864. He had resided here or in the district ever since following, in the earlier days, the occupations of drover and butcher, and for many years past had been a well-known and popular cab proprietor. His wife predeceased him in June last year, and they have left behind a grown up family of 8 sons and one daughter, all of whom are valuable citizens, and a great credit to their parents. Though now scattered about the Commonwealth and still further afield they were all educated at Maryborough. The sons are Joseph Kenna, accountant, Rockhampton; Francis Kenna, journalist, and M.L.A for Bowen; John Kenna, clerk. Br... & Co., South Brisbane; Michael Kenna, railway service, Midland Junction, Perth, West Australia; James Kenna, head cutter, Cobbett's Ltd, Toowoomba; William Kenna, draper's assistant, Orange, New South Wales; Patrick Kenna, London, who successfully ... two patents in connection with pneumatic horse collars; and Robert Kenna, window dresser, Messrs. Finney, Isles & Co., Maryborough. The only daughter Miss Nellie Kenna, resides at her late father's residence. The funeral takes place on Thursday morning.
