The veteran Australian military leader (Lieut.-Col. Sir Carl Herman Jess) died last night, aged 64. Sir Carl was recently admitted to Heidelberg Military Hospital. He was among the Anzacs who landed at Gallipoli and in the five years preceding the Second World War was Adjutant General of the A.M.F. During the war years he was chairman of the Defence Department's Manpower Committee.
