Mr. John Lloyd Jacob, who passed away at Murwillumbah, N.S.W., on 28th December 1957, was born at Flowerdale, Wagga, in March 1873. He received his education at Wagga Public School, passing the civil service examination and entering the employ of Ebenezer Shaw and Co., of Wagga.
At the age of 21 he joined his uncle, P. F. MacDonald, at Yaamba, Fernlees, and other cattle and sheep properties in the Rockhampton district, of Queensland. P. F. MacDonald had explored the country for 400 miles inland before selecting land and becoming a member of the Queensland House of Assembly in the Mcllwraith government.
In 1895 Mr. Jacob was employed by W. J. (Billy) Young, part owner (and manager) of Landsdowne with John Turnbull. In 1900 Mr. Young, then pastoral inspector for the A. P. Company, appointed him manager of Warbreccan, at that time a holding of 1½ million acres. He managed this property for 14 years, the well known author, H. G. Lamond, being his overseer. For many years he was employed by Ranald Munro on Whyenbah, St. George, Q., and as bookkeeper on Malvern Hills, Blackall, during the management of his son. In 1950 he retired to Murwillumbah.
His wife, formerly Jessie Ryder, predeceased him by two years. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Cowderoy, of Murwillumbah, and Mrs. Hodge, of Tara, Q., and one son, William, on the land at Bourke, N.S.W.
