from Blue Mountain Echo
Mr. Harry Albutt Hickman, an esteemed resident of Wentworth Falls, died at the Home of Peace, Marrickville, after a painful illness, pluckily borne. The burial took place on Monday in the Church of England cemetery at South Head, per motor service. Rev. C. Hughesdon, the rector here, officiated. Mr. Hickman, who had passed his 72nd milestone, leaves a widow and married daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Hickman have lived here for nearly a dozen years in the cottage he built in Pritchard Street. Mr. Hickman was a man of forceful personality, and was a staunch worker for and supporter of the Labor Party until the conscription question cropped up in connection with the Great War. The deceased was an intense patriot, and was for the latter period chairman of the Recruiting Committee. He was also an active member of the Wentworth Falls Group of Blue Mountain Sights Reserves. Some years ago, when Mr. S. McMurrick used to drive the Bodington cart, on one occasion he was too ill to carry out his work, Mr. Hickman quietly took up the duties, carried them out capably and handed the wages to Mr. McMurrick. With the passing of the fine old man, it is good to recall this creditable act. Mr. and Mrs. Hickman were married over forty years ago, and considerable sympathy is felt for the widow in her sad bereavement.
