Mr. Hermann August Herbst, a highly respected resident of the Logan and Albert districts, died at his residence, Ayton, near Beenleigh, last Tuesday morning, after an illness of some weeks. Deceased, who was nearly 60 years of age, was born at Eagleby on March 22, 1860. On December 9, 1896, he married Miss Helene Auguste Eichmann. Mr Herbst was engaged in farming and dairying pursuits, and had one of the largest dairy farms in the district. He was also a breeder of blood stock, and 30 years ago raced a few good horses on registered courses. Among his horses were Bivouack, Sir William, Montana, and Stuart Carrington, which held a track record on the Sandgate course. He also was well known on the unregistered courses. He is survived by his widow, four sons, six daughters, and three grandchildren. His funeral was one of the largest seen in the district, and took place on Wednesday forenoon to the Beenleigh Cemetery, the Rev. R. B. Reuther conducting the service at the home and graveside.
