A fatal gun accident occurred at Narrabeen on Saturday afternoon, the victim being Mr. C. E. Hayes Williams, a brother of the Registrar-General. Mr. Hayes Williams left his home at Darlinghurst in company with Mr. Herbert Briggs upon a shooting excursion at Narrabeen. After Mr. Briggs had crossed through a wire fence and when he was some 25 yards ahead of his friend, he was startled to hear the report of a gun behind him. Looking back, he saw Mr. Hayes Williams staggering and his gun suspended by the trigger-guard upon a projecting piece of fencing wire. Mr. Briggs found that the charge of small shot had entered his friend's side, inflicting a fearful wound. The injured man was conveyed to a private hospital at Manly, where he died. The deceased was 45 years of age. When questioned about the accident he said, "It's my own bad luck. I was getting through the fence, when the gun exploded."
