Another of the old and beloved identities of the Hawkesbury district passed away at 'Coromandel House,' Ebenezer, on September 22, in the person of Mrs. Eleanor Vera Hall, relict of the late Matthew Smith Hall, who predeceased her some 17 years. She was 79 years of age, a native of the Hawkesbury, and lived here all her life. A daughter of John and Sarah Brown, she married one of the descendants of a family that pioneered the young colony of New South Wales in the early years of last century — Matthew Smith Hall. They lived at 'Lilburndale,' Sackville North, for many years, and later removed to the historic old residence that stands in the grounds of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Her brothers and sisters are: Mr. Charles J. Brown (Killara, and recently of Windsor); Mr. Jacob Brown (Brookvale); Messrs William and Henry Brown (Sydney); Mrs. Albert Saunders (Killara); Mrs. W. Kemp (Ebenezer); and. Mr. Leslie Brown (Ebenezer). The late Mrs. Hall was a beautiful character, and was beloved by all who knew her. Her's was always a hospitable home, and no wayfarer was ever turned away. Her family are Misses Lily and Vera Hall (twins); Mrs Percy Mitchell (Eva) of Sackville; Miss Margaret Hall (Sydney) and Mr Beresford ('Berry') Hall (Ebenezer). The funeral took place on September 23, the remains being interred in the Presbyterian cemetery at Ebenezer. Rev. D. Baird conducted the service and Mr. Chandler was the undertaker.
