Much regret was expressed at Thebarton on September 7 when it became known that Mrs. Thompson [Margaret] Green, the ex-Mayoress, had died in the Adelaide Hospital on the previous evening after a short illness. Mr. Green, who represented West Torrens in the House of Assembly prior to the last elections, was mayor of Thebarton from 1914 to 1916, and was greatly assisted on the social side of his duties by his wife. Mrs. Green was highly respected. At the time of her death she was president of the local Trench Comforts committee and the Southwark Red Cross branch. She was an earnest worker for philanthropic and patriotic movements in the Thebarton district, and also a prominent member of the Congregational Church. She has left a widower, three sons (two of whom went to the front), and two daughters.
