Catherine Gill (1862–1950)

Mrs. Catherine Gill, a former Mayoress of Port Melbourne — she occupied the position in 1911-12 and again in 1918-19 — died on August 23 at her home, 23 Greig-street, Albert Park. Aged 87 at the time of her death, Mrs. Gill was not known to many of the present generation of Port Melbourne citizens, as she moved from her home near the corner of Bay and Boundary streets many years ago. However, in her younger days she was an extremely well-known and popular resident, taking an active part in local affairs, and assisting her late husband, Mr. Richard Henry Gill, in his work, both for the municipality and for the trade union of which he was secretary.
