The profoundest regret was felt here this morning (writes our Cressy correspondent yesterday) when it became known that Mr Walter A. Gatenby, of Glasslough, Epping, had died the previous night, somewhat unexpectedly, at his mother's (Mrs Thos. Gatenby's) residence, Pisa. The deceased gentleman, who was the second son of the late Mr John Gatenby, of Pisa, Lake river, had been for some time in delicate health, and was on a visit to his mother for the purpose of seeking change and rest. From information to hand Mr Gatenby retired to rest last night apparently no worse in health than he had been for some time previously, but upon going to his room this morning it was found he had passed away during the night. The deceased some few years ago purchased the estate of Glasslough at Epping, which is considered one of the most compact estate in the colony, and became a highly successful breeder of sheep, many prize-winners at the different agricultural shows being selected from the Glasslough flocks; they also commanded good prices in the other colonies. He leaves a widow - daughter of the hon. James Gibson, M.L.C. - and two children, besides a large circle of relatives, to mourn their loss.
An inquest will be held tomorrow (Thursday).
