Bernard Martin (Barney) Gately (1888–1939)

Mr. Barney Gately, one of the most widely known of owner-trainers, died yesterday at Stanmore. Most of his racing activity was at country meetings, He married Miss Fanny Durack, who was at one time Australian and Olympic swimming champion, and for many years dominated womens' swimming in Australia. Some of her records still stand.
