Mr. Henry Fowler, the pioneer of the Friendly Society Dispensary movement in Victoria, died on Saturday at his residence, Cobden-street, South Melbourne, having reached his 96th year. On the 7th September, 1868, Mr. Fowler moved the resolution which resulted in the formation of the South Melbourne U.F.S. Dispensary, the first in Victoria, and for 47 consecutive years he was its secretary, and until his recent illness had never been absent from any business meeting of the institution. He was born at Marylebone, London, and came to Victoria in 1856, and has been for the greater portion of his life an enthusiastic friendly society worker. The funeral will leave his late residence, 81 Cobden-street, South Melbourne, to-day, at 2.30. p.m.
