Violet May Forbes (1877–1946)

Sincere sympathy is felt for Mr Frederick William D. Forbes, manager of Carters (Benalla) Ltd. in the sudden death of his wife, Mrs Violet Forbes, which occurred shortly after her tea at her residence in Arundel Street, on Friday evening last. She had been in indifferent health for some time. Deceased, who was 67 years of age, was a daughter of the late Mr Edwin and Mrs May Carter, of Castlemaine, where she was born. She was married at Camberwell 35 years ago to Mr Forbes, who survives her, there being no family. The late Mrs. Forbes possessed a quiet and kind disposition and made a lot of friends in her relatively short time in Benalla. Following a short service at Holy Trinity Church, Benalla on Sunday last, the funeral left for the Benalla cemetery, both the church and graveside services being conducted by Rev. L. A. McQueen, who is acting during the illness of Canon R. C. H. Crigan. The coffin was borne by Messrs W. J. Spear, G. Peacock, C., Clarke (representing Carters Benalla Ltd) and E. L. Vaughan. The pall was supported by Messrs R. Carter, A. Smith (Carters Benalla Ltd), L. Powell, W. H. Bartholomew, H. Wilson and W. Crimmins. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr F. A. Abbott.
