Word reached Bathurst yesterday of the death of Mr. William Ferrier. No particulars as to his illness are to hand. He lived for years in Bathurst, and was foreman of works at the Bathurst Gaol. He was a great worker in the Presbyterian Church, and Sunday School, and was an elder in the former and superintendent of the latter. He was a member of the Foresters Lodge, and occupied every office in the order, and was for several terms the Chief Ranger. He was the principal mover in the formation of the Friendly Societies' Association in Bathurst, and was a very ardent supporter of a Friendly Societies' Dispensary. But his removal from Bathurst nipped its formation, which was so near an accomplished fact. From Bathurst he was promoted to the Public Works Department, Sydney, and in this position he remained until his death. He was only in his 63rd year. Besides a widow, he leaves a family of two sons, Messrs. Thomas and Gordon Ferrier, and seven daughters, Mesdames R. McBean (Carlton), H. E. Scotford (Chatswood) T. W. Patterson (Rozelle), A. Downie (Newcastle), and the Misses Katie, Florence and Beryl. He held many positions in connection with the Trades Hall, Sydney, one being Land Trustee. He was also a member of the Trades Hall Association. His remains were interred in the Presbyterian cemetery, Waverly, yesterday afternoon.
