Thomas (Tom) Fardell (?–1915)

We very much regret to have to record the death of an old and respected identity of the Orange district, in the person of Mr. Thomas Fardell, who for many years, conducted a general store in Byng-street, East Orange, the sad event occurring at four o'clock yesterday afternoon, at the age of 56 years. For the past four months he had suffered from an internal complaint, and, thinking a change would prove beneficial to his health, he went to Sydney about two months ago, and there had special treatment. The disease, however, was, apparently, too deeply rooted, and he returned home again feeling none the better, only to wait for the end confronting him, despite the best of care and medical attention. Tom Fardell was a well-known figure locally, and, possessing a genial, good-natured disposition, he was highly esteemed by all. He was a lover of good clean sport, and took much interest in horse racing. In business matters he was particularly keen, and he was conspicuous in municipal affairs during the period of his aldermanic career in connection with the municipality of East Orange. The deceased was a native of Bathurst, and came to the Orange district when quite a child. Now he has passed from amongst us, but the memory of his goodness, his kindness, and of the happiness that went with him every where will long linger. He leaves to mourn their irreparable loss a widow three sons and three daughters. The sons are Messrs Edward (now in Egypt with the first Expeditionary Force), Claude and Aubrey, of Orange, and the daughters are Mrs. Edward McIntyre (North Sydney), Mrs. James Ryan (North Sydney), and Mrs Patrick Power (Orange). The funeral will take place this afternoon, the cortege leaving his late residence at 3 o'clock for the Methodist cemetery.
