Henry Tollemache Edwards (1837–1915)

Henry Edwards, n.d.

from Pastoral Review, 16 December 1915

Mr. Henry Tollemache Edwards, of Burnima, Bombala, New South Wales, died on 19th November, aged 81 years. Mr. Edwards was born at Parramatta in 1837, being the second son of the late Captain Edwards, of the 17th Infantry Regiment, then stationed there. He came of a military family, for the three preceding generations of his father's family were army officers, and they all lived and died in harness in various parts of the world. He was educated privately, and also at a public school at Balmain. He was associated with pastoral matters all his life, and his opinion on pastoral and stock matters generally was always valued very highly, because it was the outcome of long practical experience. He was a fine judge of cattle, especially the Shorthorn breed. He always took a keen and active interest in the affairs of his district. He was one of the original members of the board appointed under the old Diseases of Sheep Act, and was for over thirty years a member of the local Pastures Protection Board, and occupied the position of chairman for some years. Mr. Edwards was also president of the Bombala Exhibition Society for about twenty years, and was a magistrate of the district for nearly forty years. He built himself a beautiful home at Burnima, where his numerous friends were ever welcome. His death is a distinct loss to the State.
