A very sad death took place at the Wellington District Hospital yesterday morning when Mrs. Mary Jane Ryan, wife of Mr. Harry Ryan, of Gobolion Street, passed away at the age of 57 years. The late Mrs. Ryan was only admitted to the hospital on the previous Saturday. It appears that a little while ago she bruised her toe with an axe, but it appeared to get all right. Later on, however, complications set in and when she was admitted to the institution it was found that gangrene had set it. As a last resource it was decided to amputate the leg, but this did not save her, for she gradually grew weaker and passed away at the hour stated. Deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sutton, of Montefiores, and she was a native of the district, where she had resided practically all her life. She was twice married, her first husband, the late Mr. G. Downey, having passed away many years ago. She is survived by a husband and grown up family, one daughter, Mrs. Peter Farley (Lithgow), the sons being, Messrs. George Downey (Lithgow), Arthur, Thomas and Leslie Downey (Port Kembla). Her brothers are, Messrs. William Thomas Sutton (Manly), George (Sydney), Thomas (Wellington), Alfred (Montefiores), Norman (Wellington), Charles (Jack) (Montefiores). Her sisters are Mrs. Lidell (Werris Creek) and Mrs. Ralston (Werris Creek). The remains were encased in a polished oak casket, and were laid to rest in the Church of England partion of the Wellington cemetery this after- noon, the services at the graveside being read by Rev. K. D. Norman. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Murray Bros.
