James Donaldson, n.d.

The late Mr. James Donaldson, formerly of Myall Creek and Wellingrove Stations, N.S.W., and a once well-known breeder of high-class rams and draught stock, who died in Sydney on the 24th July last, was one of the early pioneers of the Inverell and Warialda districts. Coming from Hamilton, Vic., where he was born seventy- nine years ago, he first, in the early eighties, took up Rose- neath, near Warialda. There being no natural water on the place, this move was regarded at the time as a great mis¬take. A remarkably gifted diviner, he soon had his wells located and sunk, and his success in this way was the means soon had under lucerne. Wellingrove was purchased later, and when he sold Myall Creek he lived there until he handed it over to his sons and retired to live in Sydney. A widow, four sons and four daughters survive him, the only two of whom still on the land are Mrs. George Jekyll, of New Bon Accord, Queensland, and Mrs. Jack Jekyll, of Swamp Oak, New England.
