Jack Dobson (1912–1926)

Gloom settled upon Mittagong on Saturday when the sad news arrived that Jack Dobson, son of Ald. E. A. Dobson, had been drowned at the Ten Foot Falls. The boy, who was nearly 14, had gone with companions for a swim and dived into the pool. He did not return to the surface and frantic search failed to find the body for some time. Poor Jack was then beyond earthly aid. It is thought that the chilliness of the water affected his heart. He was a good lad, popular with his schoolmates and giving promise of a bright career. The deepest sorrow is felt by all who knew him and sympathy is everywhere expressed for his parents. The Bowral High School sent a wreath as a token of the sympathy of his schoolmates.

The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, and was very largely attended, representatives being present from Moss Vale, Bowral, and the surrounding district. The cortege was one of the longest seen in the town for some time past. The remains were interred in the Church of England cemetery, Low Mittagong.
